The Carlton Hotel Edinburgh is centrally located on The Royal Mile so easy walking distance to Hollyrood house and also the Edinburgh castle. When we checked we got a bit of a frosty welcome, oh well everyone has a bad day !!. We left our bags with the concierge as our room wasn’t ready, our fault for arriving too early !!, so we went for a walk and found a great little pub around the corner for a pint at the Royal Oak. There was a guy there who decided to play his guitar and this got us in the mood for live Music. If you want to know where to go head over to our entertainment page for Whistle Binkies.
We had dinner included in our package and had booked for 7.30 at reception, when we got to the restaurant we were asked to go to the bar and have a drink as we would have to wait 20 mins ( uhh No!!) this was sorted out very quickly by another member of staff and we were seated. I ordered an asparagus tart, to start and it was 2 pieces of puff pastry with 4 asparagus sprigs in the middle, wow was it dry so I sent it back, the waitress then tells me that there has been lots of complaints ( my thoughts were, well why is it still on the menu). She was very helpful and I ordered a soup instead. The meal wasn’t great and we thought well maybe because its included in the price. We also had afternoon tea booked for the following day which was fabulous, great sandwiches and lovely desserts. The bed was comfortable as where the pillows but the room was overlooking the road and it didn’t have double or secondary glazing which can be done to old hotel room windows.
The breakfast was lovely with an array of cooked buffet breakfast, breads, jams and fresh fruit.
I am not sure if we would stay at the Carlton Hotel Edinburgh again, so I guess this is a Hotel Rant . In saying that its great location for local live music entertainment. If you want to be in central Edinburgh check it out Here !!
